Most possums reach a roof from a tree. A branch that rests on the gutter or hangs just above the tiles acts like a bridge from the backyard to your roof. Once they are on the roof, it is only a matter of time before they find a loose tile or open vent. Cutting those branches back is one of the simplest ways to make your home less inviting.
The crew we book looks at every tree and large shrub near the house. They focus on branches that touch the roof, hang within reach of it, or lean on fences and pergolas that connect to the roof line. The aim is to leave a clear gap of around one to two metres between the branches and the roof, as possums can jump short distances. They also point out any climbing plants or vines on walls that give possums a way up.
